Specifically, the command

more /proc/version

will give you the info you want. Since you aren't familiar with what is
in the /proc pseudodirectory, you should do

ls /proc

and see all the interesting reports on the system that are in there. You
can pretty much ignore the numbered ones, but the ones with obvious
names contain all sorts of information on the system configuration.
Skip /proc/kcore, this is a window into the system memory. more
allows you to see the file one page at a time, although most of these
are small.
