The program your trying to write can be very easily be done using Xcell.

I've got a very complicated one which I wrote that is used to calculate all
the strut lengths, angles, areas etc. use for construction various sized
dome structures.

I wrote this program using a program called TWIN ... a cheaper version of
the original Lotus 1-2-3 program. Both of these were available long before
Xcell existed.

All you need for yours are the necessary formulas for calculating the
answers your looking for.

Most of them should be in Machinery Handbook.
