OT - Gib Adjustment

I've always adjusted Bridgeports by feel. With steel ways can tell
drag and when they are binding.
When I got the Tree the X axis servo and lead screw were removed for
shipping and the table was locked with the gib adjustment. The tree
uses a single tapered gib like the Bridgeport. The Tree has plastic
(turcite) lined ways and a servo attached. Even though its got a hand
wheel I can't get much of a feel. A friend suggested centering the
table and setting up a tenths indicator in the center of the table.
Tighten the gib until you only get a couple of tenths of play. Does
this sound like the right way to do it?
