My local fabricators has a large flame cutting table they always have
something under when I go. They cut these things that look like cams most of
the time from big three inch deep slabs. These commercial tables are
obviously expensive and not every steel works will have one. Why not offer
to do contract work for a few local steel suppliers? That way they get to
offer plasma cutting on thin plates without having to be bothered hiring
special staff or buying the tables / gas and you get some cash. You could
probably just call them up and ask if they'd be interested or if they
already have one and then speak with them further if they are. I'm don't
know if offering your services in the phone book will work so well. Only
someone interested in metal work will know what plasma cnc cutting is, most
people will know it as 'Hi tech science stuff', and those that know what it
is are usually too determined to do it themselves to let someone else get a
go. : )
I remember seeing one thing on the TV... what was it. Some artist woman who
cut things with a plasma torch. She got thin sheets of metal and designed
these cool patterns of people like when you cut folded paper to the shape of
a person and they're all holding hands when you unfold it. She made them
look all wobbly like they were flames then made fire surrounds with them for
new age, up and at them, fresh business people to have in their minimalist
front rooms. She just left it as it was and put some lacquer on it I think.
You could perhaps fit high speed grinding disc to the router and pass it
over the patterns making that pretty, regular surface on the metal that
reflects the light nicely. If you live near a big city, arty stuff is the
way to go. Why not make signs? Lots of places over here in the UK have large
signs cut from stainless. Some of them look really nice.
