My fathers reply would be surely BALISTOL gun oil.
My reply is mix 50% Castrol Rustilo and 50% Shell Tellus 32.
You just have to whip it of. But if you use other thin oils it might
become sticky And then to clean of the Rustilo becomes nasty.
Excellent for cleaning of eexcisting rust is adding to the 50/50
mixture 1/3 of lighting cerosene (german: Petroleum / spanisch: Varsol)
And rub with a kitchen scrub.
That this stuff works well confirms a hinge I turned 1 3/4 years ago
and in my shop it is very wet in the rainy season.
