You are absolutely correct. I have a great deal of respect and
caution for what is truly deadly. 240VAC can kill you if you are
careless. On the otherhand I have no respect for those that would
take things that ordinarily are harmless unless an idiot is handling
them.

You are right, we are "protected" against idiots. The problem is
every time you make a better idiot proof product, they make a better
idiot. And so it goes.
