Re: Brass vs Aluminum

Thanks for all the replies! I'm actually thinking of making a special
type of electric guitar saddles for the "TransTrem" if anyone is
familiar with Steinberger guitars. I believe I'll go with brass now.
Actually I'm planning to build the whole bridge when I aquire the
proper dimensions. There will be plenty of grinding, tapping and
threading then.

After reading the info here I went and bought myself a die and a tap.
It was very inexpensive compared to what I thought it would cost! And
don't worry, it's made in USA, so I'm certain it won't fail on me and
ruin the whole project.

Now that I know brass is a bit stronger than aluminum, how does a
1/4" brass rod compare with a cold rolled steel rod of the same size
in ridgidity? I bought the die to create the threads on the vibrato
arm, but am uncertain whether brass or steel is more ridgid. I need
it to be as ridgid as possible. Aluminum is clearly not the choice
here.
