Good points.

There are a few Zinc-Aluminum alloys common to commercial use which have EXCELLENT bearing properties, in addition to structural strength approaching steel... ZA12 is one example. One down side is the heavier weight of this alloy compared to std. alumninum alloys.

There have been many posts on this material in the yahoo groups "hobbicast" and "gingery tools".

This is not the same as "pot metal", tho' that is a zinc based alloy as well.
