Welcome, Edwin! (Ed?)
you will find a wide range of opinions here, and some very strong ones at
that, as to the "how-to"s of CNC mills and desktop configurations in
particular. I submit to you two outstanding resources (in my opinion) of
people to talk to regarding getting started in CNC and a desktop mill.
One engineer who's work has impressed me is Chuck at C&G Research. Here is
his website address.
http://candgresearch.domainvalet.com/
The guru of motion control I bow to is Dan Mauch at Camtronics, Inc. Here
is his website address. http://www.seanet.com/~dmauch/
good luck and don't be surprised when other voice some very passionate
opinions contrary to what you decide is best for your setup.
