First a thanks to all for the input and suggestions.

After checking some of these out, I've decided to stick with QC.
Since I only need to work within a 5" or so diameter circle, the easiest
method turns out to be importing a jpg or other photo on one layer. This is
sized to fit the circle. Next I can draw the lines I need on a separate
layer in what ever contrasting color works best, using lines and arcs.

Then I delete the unnecessary layers, save the file as .dxf, import to
Rhino, project it to a sphere, save that as a different .dxf file name,
import the new file into Vector select all the lines and generate the gcode.

Won't even need to buy or try out any new/existing software. I can even
use my scanner to import whatever pictures I need.
