Haven't got the manual. only have the downloaded demo at this point, so I'm
doing what works with what I have....and what I know works. Will look at
the manual when I buy the program next month.

process of adding geometry to trace an image displayed inside your Cad
program is "Heads up Digitizing". The image can have a Z depth assigned.
Vector can draw splines through a series of points, lines between two points
and arcs between 3 points, sketched onto the graphic. It also lets you
rubberband arcs and modify ALL the geometry without needing to redraw.
Double click any entity to see its geometric detail, and to modify it. If
you look at the Vector quick tips card you will see that there are a lot of
methods to move, stretch, select and modify.

It is a two step process, not quite as nice as just dropping the text onto a
sphere, but still fairly simple. It is a combination of a 3D projection and
a wrap cylinder.
