Carl,
I have been using the PMAC and PMAC Lite since 1992. They are probably the
most capable boards out there. They are somewhat difficult to program, due
to the fact they are so versatile. Most cards give you one way to accomplish
a task, The PMAC gives you several ways to accomplish it.You become good
friends with the manuals when you are working with them. Their support is
pretty good also. They are not particularly good for steppers motors, they
can be made to work but it is a waste of time. I have been using them with
Advanced Motion Controls amplifiers to control standard 3 phase motors as
servo motors. They do the job very well. Most of the projects I do have a 10
HP and a 5 HP motor. I add an encoder to the back of the motor for feedback.
I have never had a PMAC fail, nor have I ever burned up a motor. I have had
a couple of the A-M-C amps go down. Delta Tau has a CNC program for the card
which started out to emulate a Fanuc, I haven't looked at it lately, but 3-4
years ago it was not too expensive. Don't know how much help I could give
you, but I will tell you what I know, if you need something.
