DRO questions for laptop?

I have a DRO board kit from Camtronics that I have yet to install,
originally I was going to put it in my big bulky PC, but now I have a
newer laptop that I plan on using to control my CNC conversion setup.

Since the DRO kit has a board which needs to be installed in the
computer, what can I use for my laptop or am I out of luck?

The CNC conversion is a servo system with rotary encoders on the
motors, but I also have the US Digital strip linear encoders as well
which I had planned on using in the first place.
