in my (limited) experience, you are out of luck... but perhaps if the system
has a dock it has an isa or pci slot IN it. I have a very old laptop that
has that for a isa network card... i was able to take it out and drop in a
controller for the lego-dacto isa card (that really really old computer
control lego thing)

It should not be too hard for someone who has done bus interfacing
before to wire the chip from that card up to run off an EPP or ECP
mode parallel port. If you want to run the motors off the same port,
you would probably have to do some serious low-level hacking of the
control program.
If you aren't ready to tackle that level of project, you are probably
better off keeping the servo loop outside of the computer, or buying a
new computer with a slot for the card.
