the weight of a motor that big hanging on the X axis (lathe cross
slide or mill X). 150 oz/in NEMA23's work fairly well. It's possible
to do good work with much smaller motors, it's just you will wait much
longer for non-cutting 'rapid' moves to reposition the tool.
