Ballscrew and Gear

I know this has probably been said a thousand times; and
recently no doubt, but I will ask anyhow.
Ok - I've got my x-axis using a ballscrew system, and my
y-gantry is using a gear and track. How can I make the two move at the
same rate? Should I be using a different size gear to account for the
ballscrew doing 1" per 3 turns?
Thanks for your help all,
