First- The program is a test program to be used to determine if your
machine control would interpret full 3 axis motion.
Second- is surface finish. If you told your CAM software to "circle
profile" this surface and to step down .010 in Z and repeat till
done. The .010 step down produces a larger cusp at the top of the
dome than at the side because of the angle difference. its hard to
explain but try it and you'll then see.
The dome program could have been done different too to improve
surface finish. As it is now, it is rotating 1/2 degree and repeating
a radial cut. As you get farther out on the edge of the dome, the
cusp hight increases again. To prevent this, I would have programed
straight line moves parallel to X or Y and then stepped then across
the entire dome.
Does this make sense?
