I would leave it in place ,I use the polygon tool and draw
a box around the board then change the name of the polygon
to GND with a solid fill that way the whole board area is a
ground plane with the rest of the signals isolated from GND
by milling
it makes one less set of traces I have to route

if you have to you could use the line tool to lay down a tight
spiral or zig-zag pattern in the area you want to clear out
set the grid size so that the cuts will overlap or use a larger
cutter for those areas only
