Finishing Oak and other woods

My own personal favorite is Mohawk, a supplier of finishing products
across North America. They helped me select a stain for our kitchen
cabinets, to perfectly match the finish on our large oak table, and it
turned out to be exceptionally easy to use, very forgiving, etc...

I finished it off with "real" nitrocellulose lacquer from the same
source,
brushable with NO brushmarks, almost instant drying, and also a joy
to use and to look at. Lacquer is getting hard to find, as the vapors
can
be explosive and lawyers too dangerous. It also wet-sands better than
other finishes, and one can build up a very deep, uniform finish in only
a
few hours. Urethane isn't quite so good, and the silicone in the
waterproof
sandpaper makes for fisheyes unless cleaned really well with alcohol.
Wait for days to get it hard enough to wetsand....
I also tried a "TV show sponsor's" brand of what they call lacquer, and
it stinks, is impossible to clean up, takes forever to dry, and mistakes

are permanent. Just my $0.0133 (that 2 Canadian cents) /mark
