Gents.
FWIW the consistently best taps I have ever used in 40 years of engineering
are those made by Goliath Threading in Britain. They are readily available
in Australia through a factory branch outlet (unfortunately 2,300 miles
from me) and I am sure they would also be available in North America as
well. Not cheap, but not overly expensive when you consider that I have
some of the BA series (similar to the US 6x32 etc) taps (with bent shank
for capstan lathe use) that have made literally thousands of nuts in my
home made miniature capstan lathe without ever a hiccup. All my standard
plug, taper and intermediate HSS taps are also Goliath except where I have
been really pushed and bought something else locally to get me out of a
hole. There are a few that I have touched up with a fine oilstone over the
years or when they start to go down hill I use my Quorn Tool & Cutter
grinder to sharpen them again.
Try www.goliathinternational.com
I have no connection with them other than being a very satisfied user over
many years.
Regards to all from my first post to the list after months of prowling :o))
