Yeah, I cut my teeth on 8080 code, and even got to like Zilog's
extensions (but not their mnemonics).

I have a friend using the Rabbit up in Washington state, I'll ask him
about a C compiler for it.

A few more old books:

"Understanding C" by Bruce Hunter

"The Elements of Programming Style" by Kernighan and Plauger

"The C Puzzle Book" by Alan Feuer

"2nd Edition C Programming Guide" by Purdum

The Style and Puzzle books aren't really on learning C, but are useful
for polishing your techniques, and fun!

Your goal to program the Rabbit to do the G code parsing as well as the
motion control is quite ambitious! Have you considered just doing the
motion control, and letting the PC do the parsing? Break it down to
blocks of new endpoints to reach? OK, you're working in VELOCITY (I
think), rather then in position, but you get the idea.
