why the $$$ in database?

Sir sausage,
I answered this as part of one of last nights messages.
Here is the answer, in more specific detail:
This database is meant to be SIMPLE. It is meant to provide a
starting point ONLY. Its power is in this simplicity.
More importantly, I didn't want to have to "keep" all the prices
constantly corrected, as I have a life outside of this group. And if
you are familiar with the cnc world, you know that prices (even for a
given product, from a given distributor) are all over the map! Also
they are changed OFTEN to "keep up" with the competition.
Fred S at imserve is one example. Can you define what the price of
Vector is for me?
Vector cad is 39 bucks. Vector CAM is anywhere from 275 to 900 bucks,
depending on where you buy it, who you are, what features you want
included, and what other products you have bought before...
Many other Distributors/mfrs. are similar in their pricing!
So a symbols technique similar to restaurant dining guides was chosen
instead. In the above example, using $$$ is much more correct than a
single listed price.
Hope this helps.

P.S. For those who are adding to the database, Thank YOU. Please keep
the descriptions short. I have asked Yahoo if this field can be made
wider, but they have not yet replied. Until then, I will edit this to
4 lines. (It is not meant to be a list of features, benefits, etc. It
IS meant to allow a program like discriminator to be identified as an
EDITOR, or for similar simple distinctions.
