Okay, like a telescoping taper attachment. Thanks for the info.
Sounds like you've got it well in hand.
As to the servo question: YES.
But it all comes down to steps per. If they are microsteps, and there
is enough power available to make each microstep "count", then
steppers will work. Try thinking your tapers through, using step
size. Then you will know the extent of any problem you may have. A
microstepper will do some smoothing, a TRUE servo will do some also.
But if you've got 2000 steps in diameter and 2 in the other dir, you
are gonna see bumps,IMO. So it depends on what "shallow" taper
means...
