Microsteps are great for smoothing out motion, but should not be
counted on to have even distribution. So if you really had only a few
steps over a long distance, you probably would see some waviness.
It's probably better to use a timing belt reduction to make the real
step size small, or best of all to use a servo system with a fine
encoder resolution - which will be more even and lets you put the
encoder on the screw, eliminating any inconsistency in the reduction
drive.
