Many networking cards have an empty socket. this is to allow you to insert
a custom EPROM to boot from a server. Windows is not real good at
identifying network cards. I have some that are plug and play labeled, but
don't. I suspect that this is often due to the motherboard/bios. Often you
must not depend on the windows autoprobe, but have the manufacturers driver
disks and manually install through the control panel. Those cards could very
well be good.
