I would make one caution however. Components that are to be "baked" should
come to
you in airtight sealed bags. Don't open the bag until you are just ready to
reflow them.
Otherwise the components can absorb moisture from the air and that moisture
can turn
into steam in the oven and explode your parts from the inside out.
You can look up a baking schedule on the component manufacturer's web site
if you
have components that haven't been sealed and need to be dehumidified before
use.
I've used the toaster oven trick for several years now with great success.
But for one
off boards, I just do it by hand. Tack 4 corners of the chip, lay down the
bead of solder
paste, then move along the pins with the iron. Clean up any bridges with
solder wick.
Most solder pastes should also be stored in the refrigerator.
The oven also works great for reclaiming components off of junk boards.
Also, never use the toaster oven for food once you've used it to bake PC
boards.
Last I heard on the A3977 production was supposed to be ramped up by March
15th.
