Yes, the 1000 effectively steps per inch. From Fred's explination it is
really steps per unit and the units are determined through the LINEAR_UNITS
= setting. Good question on the 0. I do remember seeing it in the
documentation somewhere, but don't remember right now. What I do know is you
need to have it and leave it a 0.

MAX _VELOCITY is a global setting and can not currently be set on a per axis
basis.
