hello;
in my mind there are two distinct archives.
archive 1 is a full complete backup of onelist/egroups/yahoo
messages. this archive would be used to either move the list
or recover from a catastrophic failure at the hosting site.
this archive is based on the partially intact e-mail headers
and as close to the original message as i am able to get.
the only messages missing from this archive are the same ones
missing from the hosting site. current there are 200 messages
missing from the yahoo site. the only people who should have
a copy of these archives are bill, tim goldstein, and jon.
archive 2 is public archive which may be a subset of archive 1.
messages not in archive 2 are spam, off-topic messages, flames,
personal attacks, etc. these archives are what list members would
find most useful. these would be the archives given out 'names'.
i agree that archive 1 should remain intact. archive 1 also has
limited distribution ( basically 4 people, bill, tim, jon, and
by default myself since i slurped the messages down.
archive 2 is the one that in my opinion should be edited to
some degree.
each archive has a total different purpose.
