I guess the question is of the type "Can I be a little bit pregnant
and really not be?"
The drive is rated at 80VDC, not 81 or 82VDC. This all has to do with
reliability. The drives get tested at at 100VDC; would you want to
run them at that voltage? No. That is used to weed out the ones that
would be failure prone later on.
Would it survive at 85VDC? Probably, but with no margin to to deal
with the voltage surges it would be exposed to in practical use.
The drive will last for years at 80VDC, it will come apart in
microseconds at 112VDC. That is the typical tested failure voltage.
Those last 32 volts compress life from years into microseconds.
