Hi Joe

for a manual pulse generator you could just wire the A & B channels
right into a port and decode the states in software ,it still only uses two
input pins for the encoder same as a step/dir conversion chip

there was a flurry of posts on these about a month ago
(with $ticker $hock and all :-)
and another back in Nov-2000
and some of it wound up here
