Yes, there are. Federal makes them (Fowler, Mitutoyo, and others, too.)
I got one that had been specially modified for fiber optic adjustments
cheaply. it has an LCD bar graph to simulate the moving pointer.
It has a range of +/- .005", with graduations of .00005", I think.
It would be hard to do that with a small mechanical system.
