Hi Brad,

I'm an EE and an electrical contractor, among other things, so maybe I can
help a little. It sounds like the transformer is 240v delta to 480v wye.
480v wye is 480v phase to phase and 277v phase to neutral. How many
terminals are there on the primaries and secondary of the transformer(s) and
how are they all labeled? I'm more concerned about voltage than phase right
now.

You don't need a scope to get phase order right. About the only bad thing
that will happen with the phase order reversed is the motor will turn
backwards. Tell me more about the motors on this thing.

My guess is those old servo amps will make good door stops, but I'm sure
someone else will know more about them.

Jeff

This weekend, instead of Christmas shopping, I hooked up the mill. That
is, I hooked up the control cabinet to the machine. I have yet to
actually put the 3 phase to the breaker. Here's the next question: The
mill manual say that the incoming power must be phased correctly, or
damage may result. I don't have a 'scope as yet, and don't know how to
determine the phases of my convertor. Is it possible to do this without
a 'scope? The main transformer is looking for a delta 3 phase input,
which it turns into a 276V wye 3 phase output, among other things. The
transformer primary is connected with H1 to both ends of the coil, and
H2, and H3 taps into the coil center, per the diagram on it. (hard to
describe with words) This is where I assume the phase shift is
important. Next, the amps are 'saturation servo pcc amps', and it seems
like there may be 4 of them, an extra for a rotary axis option, although
from the marks on the elect diagram, its likely that the Z axis failed,
and was switched over to the rotary amp. (I haven't physically
determined what part of the mess the amps are!) Are these a good style
amp?
Can I likely use them, if they work, with a STG card, and emc? The
machine looks like it ran directly from the tape, or a manual input. I
need to ponder over the wiring diagrams some more yet to hope for a
flash of understanding.
Right now, I'm hesitant to power the unit up for fear of having the
phasing wrong, so any input on how to determine the phase angles would
be greatly appreciated! Although I have the wiring diagrams, they are on
24" x 36" paper, which I can't easily scan and send to the dropbox. As I
learn, I'll try to get the info pertinent to my questions into the
dropbox, as I appear to have a wealth of info on the construction of the
machine, even a 2" thick stack of the same big sheets with the logic
circuits! (currently 100% unintelligible to me...)
