com problem

Hi,

DeskNC uses an external pulse generator to send pulse to the motor
driver and communicate with the PC via a serial cable.

With my desktop, there was no problem, but when I use my notebook,
the error messages:

"could not send command to controller - Aborting"
"controller not initialized. Running in preview mode"

invariably pops up when I start DeskNC for windows

The parameters for the controller in the parameter files are:

[CONTROLLER]
PORT=1
BAUD=5
STATUS=1
CONTOURING=1

Tried changing parameters to

PORT=2

resulted in error message

"Invalid port number (COM2)

Changing the baud rate from 5 to 4 didn't help, neither did 3, 2 nor
1.

Anyone has any idea what may be the problem or how to go about
identifying the problem.
