Hi Dan,

I believe the problem lies with the notebook as when I connect to the
desktop, the board is detected by the computer, with the initial
message "controller in Estop. All I had to do is to click on the
[reset(E-stop)] button and I get the message "controller is ready. I
have the E-stop terminal shorted to ground so it cannot be the
floating E-stop pin. It also cannot be the serial cable as the same
serial cable works with the desktop, but not with the notebook. I
have also done a continuity test with the serial cable to make sure
that all the wires are connected straight thro'

What else can I check?

Thanks
