Too bad it is so cumbersome to make the tool-post electrically isolated from
the lathe's chassis, as "contact" to the workpiece could be used as
indication of starting location very, very repetitively and accurately! I
saw a big ol' CNC chucker in a local tool-show (HOUSTEX '02) recently that
used a "dummy cutting tool" to "find" the work-piece, and it could
"self-compensate" for tool-bit wear!!!!
