There are lots of people on the internet who have coils guns that are simply
a coil of wire with a piece fo metal inside it connected to a lot of
capacitors (Go to Sam's Powerlabs). The metal leaves at around 200m/s on
ones made over night. The reason the metal leaves the coil is that the
magnetic field expands over it, induces a current within the metal slug,
then repels the charge on the metal (Or so I read anyway). They do it with
other things too. Like a length of wire connected to a capacitor, wound into
a flat snail shell like coil, then a metal disc is placed over the flat
coil.

at some mongo speed through a massive solid state switch if you like.
