Hugo,

Some recommend that you use the 5 volts from your PC. The break-out board
that I use has a built in 5 volt supply.

If you build your own 5 volt supply make sure that the ground is connected
to the ground pins (Parallel port db 25) for the PC.

Just a quick questions the +5 V on the geckodrive next to the step
and direction signal, can I use a +5V line out of a power supply or
