Re: [CAD_CAM_EDM_DRO] checking parallel port

Hi Hugo,

If you look closely at the DB25 connectors, you'll see that there are
small numbers in the insulation, next to the pins. Or check some other
connectors until you find one that does. Then mark it on the housing
with a Sharpie marker. Insure that all 25 pins are connected 1:1. Some
DB25 connectored cables are really RS232 cables (serial) and DON'T have
all their wires!

If you setup your controller for the slowest jog possible, and connect a
multimeter set for a 5V range to the direction pin, and ground on pin
18-25 (normally, all these are ground), you should be able to make the
voltage on that pin swing from about .2V to about 3.5V when you first
command a jog in one direction, and then another. If not, insure you
are checking the right pins for the controller! Insure you have the
right port address selected!

24V 2A is fine for initial experiments. You just won't be able to move
a big load. You probably want to get +5V from the PC, as has been
mentioned many times on this list.
