Hi,
Sanyo Denki motors are inexpensive (<$100) and are among the best
motors I have ever tested, particularly the 103 series. The 2 amp
version eaisily spins up to over 6,000 RPM no-load and outputs 100W
at 60VDC. They are also exceptionally linear, making them excellent
microstepping candidates. I measured the ratio between the smallest
microstep to the biggest at 1:1.1, meaning the motor linearity is
about 1%. My 2 cent's worth.
