W. M. Berg makes a bunch of special timing belts and 'chains' with
wire rope cores. They sell field splice kits that have a jig to align
the sprocket pitch, crimp ferrules to splice the wire rope, and a
tool for crimping the ferrules. The kits are pretty expensive, over
$100 as I recall. I just let them make up the belts to the size I
need.
