You can use ordinary Conrad radial-rated types for the drive end. They have
a pretty good thrust capacity, usually equal to or close to the radial
rating. It's a lot easier to find them. They can be preloaded two ways:
inner race shims or outer race shimes. The other pair of races is clamped
together. IR shimming gives you less overturning moment in the pair than OR
shimming.

They would indeed and give you enormous load capacity, but they are longer
than ball types.
