Reducing the voltage will have minimal effect on the motor's heating.
If you reduce voltage, you will reduce the torque at the higher speeds
quite drastically. How hot are they getting? Can you still hold your
hand on them? If so, stop worrying. If you can't hold your hand on
them only after having the motors MOVING for 45 minutes, that
is probably normal, too. Reducing the current setting will reduce
your holding torque, but will not reduce high speed torque above
a certain speed. So, you may be able to turn the current down a
bit with no effect on performance, but that may allow the motors
to remain cooler at idle.
