True, also keep in mind that the way the operator interfaces with a control
differs greatly from one control to the other. Proprietary controls do not
work like Windows or DOS, although the softare may run in those environments.
The majority of Fanuc controllers are totally proprietary and the way you
navigate between modes, how you work the editor for writing or entering
programs is totally different from say a NUM, Allen-Bradley, OSAI, Bosch or
any other control and they all differ from each other. There is definately a
learning curve for all of them so your instructor is correct in wanting you
to learn the Fanuc controller.
