Hi ,

I am restoring full sizes steam loco,s and have been recently moving some
huge lathes , many times bigger than the ones you have your eyed on.

The answer you to you question is, its easy for even a few people to move
even the biggest machine.

What we do is to use a crow bar to lift one edge off the ground then put
some lengths of steel round bars under it.

With 3 lengths once you have two under the machine will become mobile.
One person will then be able to move it easily on these rollers.

You can then put some proper slips under as well if you have some.
To move small distances steel rods are fine, usually 1 inch diameter.

Take care not to drop the machine edge down hard onto the rollers , we have
broken the edges off castings this way !

For safety I would suggest having 3 people, 6 people for huge machines.

We recently did the same thing with a Jcb digger and 2 inch bars to move a
machine with a 4 foot diameter face plate.
The jcb digger was used to lever up the corner of the machine and do the
pushing.

you may also want to hire a lorry with a rear lift on it, if you are going
some distance.

The crow bars we use are 1 1/2 inches in diameter and 4 feet long, with a
spade cranked end.

Hope this helps.

Regards

Mark
