I had the same problem with a HF minimill
you will probably want to strip the machine down for cleaning anyway
while you are doing that check the gibs for burrs and see if the travel
improves when the lead nuts and lead screw bearing plates are loosened
slightly they may have been misaligned when installed or tweaked in shipping
mine loosened up quite a bit when I let the nuts float to there own centers
before tightening them back down
