The key is that they make the cog on the belt a little bit wider than the gap between
teeth in the sprocket. If you need it tight, you apply a lot of belt tension, and the rubber
cog is forced down into the gap. Eventually the cog wears down a bit, and a tight
fit can no longer be maintained. Then the belt will creep over the sprockets with
a definite creaking sound. In accurate positioning systems, that is your cue to replace
the belts.
