A radial drum type compressor is fairly efficient under 100krpm in small
compressors and that could be machined with no problems in a stand 3 axis
machine, in fact you could it on 2 if you moved the quill yourself after
each pass.

The really weird shaped higher efficiency ones on turbochargers for over
100krpm you could do on a 4 axis machine with the compressor mounted on the
rotary table at 90 to the spindle. I can imagine drawing out such a
compressor would be a total BEAST of a task for a total Nurbs newbie like
myself. I couldn't even draw one free hand let alone as per I wanted it
without the measurements in front of me.

Speaking on centrifugal fans. I got a summer job helping this guy out making
iron gates and railings to earn me my Mill fund money. The fund is currently
at £900 and should be at £1.5k by the end of the hols but will take a
bashing due to guitar gear buying. I burnt my eye lashes off for that money
by accident today! :-) Anyway, we visit a place that rebuilds pumps. They
had a sewage pump on the table all machined from 316, very pretty. The
centrifugal head was about 15-20 cm in diameter and fitted to some motor
that was easily 2-4hp. Apparently they are rebuilding the pump and selling
it on for £9k. So the moto, learn how to mill out centrifugal pump heads,
machine them, and sell the suckers! This thing was rather poorly done too. I
could still see the machining marks all over it from rough milling.
