The two things that are certain about the Comet are two: 1) they didn't
crash because of engine trouble (metal fatigue did it, specifically the
window frames), and 2) nobody in the 50s ever used carbon fiber composites
in the motors. It was at least another 10-15 years before it was even
invented.
