You can buy machinable wax, Enco sells it. There are a number of materials
out there made specifically for prototyping on CNC work. My lathe came with
an advert for something called Toy Steel which was some high density
plastic. Nylon and Acrylic are okay for prototyping on apparently. That Toy
Steel ad is about 18 years old so if you can still find any I'll be very
impressed! :-)
