I went on a tour at Flow waterjet a few years ago (a nice shop BTW)
the guide was telling us that one of the big problems they had was the
seals 'extruding' thru slight scratches on any surface at these pressures
(I think they were up to 75Kpsi at the time)
on one side of the building was a temperature controlled grind shop
to superfinish the high pressure parts
if you're going to experiment with these things at home make sure to update
your life insurance policy first !
